Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense: These Acts of Aggression Will Not Go Unanswered

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan strongly condemns the attacks by the armed forces of Iran against civilian infrastructure on the territory of our country, carried out in the absence of any military necessity.

This was stated in a declaration by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.

"On March 5, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran carried out acts of aggression from Iranian territory using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting the Nakhchivan International Airport and other civilian infrastructure facilities in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.

Currently, the technical parameters of the UAVs and details of these attacks are being studied.

Full responsibility for the incident lies entirely with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan is preparing necessary response measures to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, as well as to ensure the safety of civilians and infrastructure. These acts of aggression will not go unanswered," the statement reads.

On March 5 at noon, drone attacks were carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

One drone crashed into the terminal building of the airport in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, while another fell near a school building in the village of Shekerabad.

As a result of the attack, the airport building was damaged, and two civilians were injured, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan strongly condemned the attacks.

"We strongly condemn these drone attacks carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This attack on Azerbaijani territory contradicts the norms and principles of international law and contributes to the escalation of tensions in the region.

We demand that the Islamic Republic of Iran clarify this issue as soon as possible, provide explanations, and take urgent measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate response measures," the statement said.

The Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A strong protest will be expressed to the Iranian side, and a corresponding note of protest will be handed over, the ministry noted.
