Verdict delivered in Yekaterinburg for Shahin Shikhlinsky and his son

The former head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Urals, Shahin Shikhlinsky, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for using violence against a public official, while his son Mutvali Shikhlinsky received an 8-year sentence.

As reported by 1news.az citing APA, the decision was made by the Kirovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg.

It should be noted that in June of last year, Russian law enforcement agencies conducted an operation against Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the operation, force was used, resulting in the deaths of two Azerbaijanis, brothers Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov. Other members of the Safarov family and several other compatriots were arrested by court decision. They were charged with crimes committed in 2001, 2010, and 2011. Later, the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, Shahin Shikhlinsky, and his son Mutvali Shikhlinsky were detained. On July 1, near 'Baku Plaza,' operatives of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in unmarked vehicles and clothing carried out an attack on a car driven by Mutvali Shikhlinsky, in which his father was a passenger. At that moment, Mutvali Shikhlinsky, in a state of confusion, ran over an FSB officer. In court, he expressed regret over the incident and stated that the collision was unintentional.

On the day of their detention, Shahin and Mutvali Shikhlinsky were released, but after some time, a criminal case was initiated against them under the article on the use of violence against a representative of the authorities. Initially, Mutvali was detained, followed by Shahin Shikhlinsky, who was also charged with organizing a contract killing and an attempt on someone's life.
