Reference to American shooter in WhatsApp: New details of the attack in Kahramanmaraş
In the investigation of the armed attack at a school in Kahramanmaraş, key attention is focused on the digital traces of the assailant.
As reported by the General Directorate of Security, a profile picture on WhatsApp belonging to 14-year-old İsa Aras Mersinli was found to contain a reference to American criminal Elliot Rodger, who committed a mass attack in 2014.
According to the investigation, this detail is considered significant in understanding the possible motives of the teenager. At the same time, it is officially emphasized that the incident shows no signs of terrorism and is classified as an individual attack.
The tragedy occurred on Wednesday at one of the schools in Kahramanmaraş. İsa Aras Mersinli arrived at the school with a weapon and opened fire on people. As a result of the attack, a teacher and 8 students were killed, and 20 others were injured, with 6 of them in critical condition.
As part of the investigation, the father of the assailant, former police officer Uğur Mersinli, was detained and arrested.
Investigative actions continue in all directions, with particular attention paid to the analysis of the teenager's digital activity, including his accounts on messaging apps and social networks.
