Iran will not agree to halt nuclear program

Iranian authorities, contrary to claims by U.S. President Donald Trump, have not agreed to halt their uranium enrichment program and will never do so.

This was stated by a source in Tehran to CNN.

According to the source, Iran "will never accept" such proposals. The channel recalled, citing its sources, that the U.S. had previously proposed a 20-year pause in uranium enrichment to Iran, to which Iran responded with a counteroffer of a five-year term, but the Americans rejected it.

Last week, Trump claimed in a telephone interview with NewsNation that Iran had agreed to stop uranium enrichment.

The U.S. and Israel launched a large-scale operation against Iran on February 28. On April 7, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with the Islamic Republic. On April 11, the two countries held several rounds of talks in Islamabad. As later reported in Tehran and Washington, the parties failed to reach an agreement on the issue of long-term conflict resolution due to a number of disagreements. It remains unclear whether a new round of consultations will take place. The U.S. began a naval blockade of Iran on April 13.
