Pezeshkian calls for diplomatic solutions to conflict with the US

Continuing the war is not beneficial for either Iran or the US, which is why diplomatic paths to resolve the conflict must be sought, believes Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

"War benefits no one, and alongside countering threats, it is necessary to use any reasonable and diplomatic means to reduce tensions. At the same time, distrust of the opponent and vigilance in interactions remain a necessity," the president's press service quotes him as saying.

The US and Israel launched a large-scale operation against Iran on February 28. On April 7, American President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with the Islamic Republic. On April 11, the two countries held several rounds of negotiations in Islamabad. As later reported in Tehran and Washington, the parties failed to reach an agreement on the issue of long-term conflict resolution due to a number of disagreements. Whether a new round of consultations will take place remains unknown. The US began a naval blockade of Iran on April 13.
