Pashinyan highlights importance of adopting new constitution in Armenia
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan explained the importance of adopting a new Constitution for Armenia.
As reported by “Armenpress,” he presented this during the unveiling of the election program of the ruling party “Civil Contract.”
“Why is adopting a new Constitution important for us? Because there is a certain tension in our relationship between the state and the citizen, and one of the reasons for this tension is the lack of understanding among the citizens of the Republic of Armenia that the legal system established in Armenia was created by them. Not only is there no such understanding, but there is also no such reality, because the results of all constitutional referendums in Armenia have always been questioned. I, too, as a journalist in the past, covered constitutional referendums, and we witnessed all constitutional referendums during political processes, and there was always this feeling of falsification of the referendum results, which creates tension and a disconnect between the citizen and the legal system. For us, it is extremely important to have an organic connection between the citizen and the legal system, and establishing this organic connection means adopting the Constitution through a referendum,” Pashinyan said.
