Iran names condition for national team participation in 2026 FIFA World Cup
The Iranian national team may participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup provided the safety of its players is ensured.
This was stated by the Minister of Sports of the Islamic Republic, Ahmad Donyamali.
"If the safety of the national team players in the USA is ensured, we will go to the World Cup. However, the decision on participation will be made by the government and the Supreme National Security Council [of Iran]," he said, as reported by the Tasnim news agency.
On March 13, Donyamali stated that Iran wanted to relocate the national team's matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup from the USA to Mexico and was in talks with Mexico City.
