Iran sets five conditions for returning to negotiations with the US
Tehran refused to participate in the second stage of negotiations until a number of demands from Washington are met, Fars news agency reported on May 12, citing a source.
Among the conditions are: cessation of military actions in the region, lifting of sanctions against Iran, unblocking of Iranian assets, payment of compensation for damages caused, as well as recognition of Iran's rights in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to media reports, these demands were a response to the American initiative, which included 14 points. Washington, in particular, proposed easing sanctions in exchange for Tehran abandoning the development of nuclear weapons.
US President Donald Trump said that he received Iran's response on May 10. Earlier, he stated that Iran's proposals did not suit him, but he did not comment on the details.
Negotiations between the parties remain in a tense stage, despite the current temporary truce.
