London's Arsenal became the champion of England after a 22-year break.

The team received the title ahead of schedule: a 1:1 draw in the Manchester City vs Bournemouth game helped.

Previously, the London football club under Spanish coach Mikel Arteta finished second in the Premier League three years in a row, twice letting Manchester City ahead, and last season Liverpool.

This time Arsenal led the standings for most of the season, but in April nearly missed their chance, losing to Manchester City 2:1.

"Nothing is decided yet," Arsenal captain Declan Rice wrote on social media at the time. On Tuesday, when City drew their game, he posted a photo of celebrating Arsenal players with the caption: "It's all decided."

It was City's 1:1 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday evening that secured the championship title for Arsenal one round early. Manchester City were trailing in regular time and only equalized in the 94th minute, making Arsenal fans nervous: a second goal would have carried the intrigue into the final round of the championship.

But now the last game will change nothing for Arsenal: on Sunday they will receive their long-awaited trophy.

This championship title became the fourteenth in the team's history.

The last time Arsenal won the Premier League title was in the 2003/04 season, when the team under Arsene Wenger went through the entire championship without a single defeat, winning 26 matches and drawing another 12, earning the title of "invincibles."
