38-year-old Messi in Argentina national team squad for 2026 World Cup

38-year-old Inter Miami forward has been included in the Argentina national team squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Previously, he played in the World Cup in 2006, 2010, 2014 (became vice-champion), 2018 and 2022 (became champion) years.

No footballer has yet taken part in six editions of this tournament. This year, Messi and 41-year-old Portugal national team forward Cristiano Ronaldo could update the record.

Besides Messi and Ronaldo, Antonio Carbajal, Rafael Marquez, Andres Guardado (all — Mexico) and Lothar Matthaus (FRG / Germany) have played in five World Cups.
