Iran asks FIFA not to hold ceremonies honoring LGBT in 2026 World Cup match against Egypt
The Iranian national team has sent an official request to FIFA not to hold ceremonies and not to use advertising inserts with LGBT attributes during the match of the third round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup against the Egyptian national team.
This is reported by 1news.az citing RMC Sport.
"The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran takes this issue very seriously and has stated its position to FIFA. Iran and Egypt are two Muslim countries that share deep cultural and religious ties. The views expressed by both federations reflect the values and beliefs shared by the populations of these two countries. Our position is that no ceremonies or advertising events related to this movement should be held at the stadium," the publication quotes an unnamed representative of the Iranian national team.
The game will take place this Saturday at Lumen Field stadium in Seattle. Kickoff is at 07:00 Baku time.
