Man who climbed Eiffel Tower and hung US flag detained

French police detained a man who climbed the Eiffel Tower and hung an American flag.

Paris police said that on July 4 the man climbed the Eiffel Tower and hung the American flag in honor of the 250th anniversary of US independence. He was spotted during the day when he was climbing the tower between the second and third floors and hanging the Stars and Stripes flag.

He was arrested, and the front platform, as well as the second and third floors, were evacuated for some time. According to the police, the detainee did not explain his motives. The flag was removed.
