NYT: Trump considers three options for the development of the situation with Iran

US President Donald Trump is considering three options for the development of the situation in the war with Iran.

The New York Times reported this.

According to the newspaper, among them are: military escalation; economic repression against Iran by imposing new sanctions; declaring the victory of the United States in the war and withdrawing from the conflict. "Each of the options was discussed in recent weeks at meetings with US Vice President JD Vance, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Dan Caine, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner," the newspaper clarified.

The New York Times notes that over five months of conflict, the US has failed to achieve its goals, including changing the Iranian government through the use of "overwhelming military power."

The latest escalation of the US-Iranian conflict began on July 8. The US Armed Forces for the first time since the signing of the memorandum between Washington and Tehran carried out several series of strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic, allegedly in response to an attack on a merchant ship in the Strait of Hormuz. On the same day, Trump announced the termination of the truce with Iran. As part of retaliatory actions, Tehran began striking US facilities in the Middle East located in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Oman. On July 24, the parties stopped exchanging strikes.
