Russia's SVR: EU realizes inevitability of crisis in Armenia upon exit from EAEU

Brussels realizes the inevitability of a deep economic crisis in Armenia if Yerevan finds itself outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

This is stated in a message from the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation.

"According to information received by the SVR, Brussels realizes the inevitability of a deep economic crisis in Armenia if Yerevan finds itself outside the Eurasian Economic Union. It is emphasized that the elimination of income from participation in Eurasian integration will not allow the stability of the Armenian authorities 'rowing' toward the EU to be ensured at the expense of EAEU members," the press bureau noted. "The EU lures Armenia to itself but cannot help," the message indicated.

It states that the European Union realizes its inability to compensate Yerevan for the billions in losses from exiting the EAEU, and many European countries have already signaled to EU leadership their unwillingness to open their markets to goods from Armenia.

At the same time, the message notes that the European Union is already demanding that the Armenian government sever humanitarian ties with Russia and reduce the presence of Russian business.

"Brussels bureaucrats will continue to convince Yerevan of their unconditional support. The E.U. members intend to explain the stalling of concrete assistance by the fact that accession to the EU will fully depend on Yerevan and its 'achievements' on the path of European integration," the SVR noted. It clarified: "The government of Nikol Pashinyan is already being required to reduce the presence of Russian business in strategic sectors, sever humanitarian ties with the Russian Federation, and suppress internal opponents speaking out against this."

According to the SVR, "such a line is to be encouraged through manipulations of prospects for visa liberalization for Armenian citizens and promises in the 'beautiful distant future' to turn Armenia into a 'prosperous crossroads of the world.'"
