Brewery that promised free beer if Trump dies loses license

Regulators in the U.S. state of Wisconsin have revoked the operating license of the Minocqua Brewing Company, whose owner is known for negative statements about U.S. President Donald Trump.

The decision takes effect August 4. The reason was the seizure at the facility of a batch of canned beer that authorities said had been imported from another state without the necessary permit and payment of taxes.

The brewery owner and well-known liberal activist Kirk Bangstad believes that the alleged tax violations are not grounds for closing his business and intends to challenge the decision "by all available means." He has already called on his supporters to donate to a special fund to cover legal costs, which he estimates could reach $100,000 even before the trial.

Fox News reports that the brewery's social media accounts have repeatedly posted anti-Trump statements that, among other things, "hinted that customers would be treated to free beer in the event of Trump's assassination, although his name was not mentioned directly." In particular, in April after the shooting incident at the White House, the brewery announced that "we are close to the day of free beer" and added that participants in the "resistance need to work on their accuracy <...> so that [we] get a positive news picture of the day."
