Pashinyan says Putin did not congratulate him on his election victory

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not congratulate Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his election victory during their recent telephone conversation.

Pashinyan told reporters about this.

Answering a question about whether the Russian leader had congratulated him, the prime minister said: "No, he did not congratulate me."

In response to a follow-up question from journalists, Pashinyan said: "He did not want to, he did not congratulate me."

The prime minister was also asked whether congratulations from Putin were important to him.

"You know, the question here is — who was he talking to?" Pashinyan said.

He also did not rule out a meeting with the Russian president.

"At the very least, we will certainly have discussions and contacts... We spoke about meeting in the near future, but this has not yet been made specific," the prime minister noted.

On July 27, a telephone conversation took place between the leaders of Armenia and the Russian Federation — Nikol Pashinyan and Vladimir Putin. The press service of the Armenian government reported that the parties exchanged views on the Armenian-Russian agenda, in particular on the problems that have arisen in economic relations. The Kremlin stated that the meeting emphasized the need to hold a nationwide referendum in Armenia as soon as possible on joining the EU or remaining part of the EAEU.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia were held on June 7, 2026. According to the official results, three political forces entered the National Assembly: the Civil Contract party (led by Nikol Pashinyan) received 49.7456% of the votes (726,819 votes), the Strong Armenia bloc — 23.2710% (340,060 votes), and the Armenia bloc — 9.9231% (144,983 votes).
