American tanker attacked by drone at Egyptian port
A drone struck a liquefied natural gas storage tanker in the Mediterranean port of Damietta in Egypt, Reuters reports, citing the British maritime risk management company Ambrey.
According to its data, the vessel is owned by the United States and sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands.
Ambrey said that at least one drone hit the floating LNG storage facility. Explosions occurred in the port after the attack.
The British company Inchcape stated that two gas carriers caught fire in Damietta and were moved outside the port area. The crew was evacuated. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the strike. Egypt's Ministry of Energy said no one was injured in the fire at the port.
Reuters sources reported that the tanker Energos Winter was hit. According to them, the fire from the gas carrier spread to another vessel, the Gaslog Salem.
Information on the Marine Optima and Marine Traffic websites indicates that the Energos Winter is currently docked in Damietta under the flag of the Marshall Islands. Its summer deadweight exceeds 80,000 tons.
