Five Iranian military advisers killed in Iraq in U.S. and Saudi strikes
At least five Iranian military advisers were killed in strikes by the United States and Saudi Arabia on facilities of the "Popular Mobilization Forces" in Iraq.
This was reported by The National, citing a representative of the Iraqi security services.
According to him, those killed served alongside fighters of the "Popular Mobilization Forces" — an association of armed formations backed by Iran.
Earlier, a funeral ceremony for the killed militia fighters was held in Baghdad. Five coffins were draped in the state flags of Iran.
According to the "Popular Mobilization Forces," at least 20 people were killed in the airstrikes, and several more were wounded.
On July 29, the Saudi Ministry of Defense reported the interception and destruction of drones launched from Iraqi territory toward oil facilities in the kingdom's Eastern Province. After that, the Saudi armed forces, together with the U.S. Central Command, carried out a series of strikes on facilities of Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the operation had been coordinated with the official government in Baghdad, but the Iraqi authorities condemned the strikes on the country's territory.
