Media: Turkey has not met the conditions for receiving F-35s
On July 22, the State Department sent Congress a letter stating that Turkey does not yet meet the requirements necessary for the sale of F-35 fighter jets to it.

The letter noted that U.S. legislation prohibits the transfer of F-35s to Turkey as long as Ankara possesses Russian S-400 air defense systems and related equipment, as well as until it commits not to acquire them in the future and fulfills the "other certification requirements established by Congress." "Turkey does not yet meet these conditions," said the State Department document sent to Capitol Hill.
Turkey was excluded from the F-35 program after it purchased four divisions of S-400 air defense systems from Russia in 2017. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, following the results of the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7-8, said that U.S. President Donald Trump has a positive attitude toward the delivery of F-35 fighter jets to the republic. Trump himself stated that he is inclined to approve the sale of the fighter jets to Turkey. At the same time, he emphasized that a final decision has not yet been made and that an assessment of possible actions is being carried out.
