More than 30 people killed in methane explosion at a mine in Pakistan

A large-scale rock collapse occurred at a coal mine in Pakistan's Balochistan province, killing dozens of people, the region's disaster management authority reported.

The cause of the disaster at the coal deposit was a powerful explosion of accumulated methane. At the time of the accident, 42 workers were underground, RIA Novosti reports.

"The number of those killed as a result of the collapse of the coal mine in Balochistan... has risen to 34 after rescue teams pulled six more bodies from the site," the Pakistani television channel Geo notes.

Search operations are continuing.
