Israel is skeptical about the prospect of Hamas disarmament

Israeli authorities are skeptical about the prospect of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas disarming under the peace settlement plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The newspaper The Hill reported this, citing American diplomatic sources.

On Thursday, Trump announced that the Board of Peace, created at the initiative of the United States, had agreed on the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. The U.S. president also stated that Israeli units would be withdrawn from Gaza after that.

"They (the Israeli side - TASS note) are very skeptical that Hamas will disarm. But then again, not much is actually required of them in this process, this is not an agreement based on trust. It is in fact just a deal based on conditions. And as events unfold, everyone will have to fulfill the commitments they have made," one of the publication's interlocutors noted.

The newspaper The Jerusalem Post also reported on Thursday, citing sources, that Israel's leadership had conveyed its doubts about the prospects for implementing the peace settlement plan to former British Prime Minister and Board of Peace representative Tony Blair.
