UEFA has developed an analog of the World Cup — the "Global Nations League"

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has stepped up the development of its own analog of the World Cup — a project called the "Global Nations League."

This was reported by Sky News.

The concept of the "Global Nations League" was developed at UEFA back in 2017, but it was not implemented at the time. Initially, the project envisioned the creation of an international tournament with the participation of national teams from all continental confederations, which would be held in odd-numbered years so as not to overlap with the European Championships and the World Cup.

According to the plan, world soccer is divided into seven divisions in accordance with the national teams' rankings. Eight teams from each division advance to the final stage, playing in a mini-championship format: quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final.
