Nearly 70,000 migrants from Morocco leave Spanish Ceuta after mass influx
About 69,500 migrants in the last 30 hours left the Spanish city of Ceuta and returned to Morocco after a mass border crossing.
As the EFE news agency reports, the installation of protective barriers has begun simultaneously on the Tarajal breakwater at the border.
According to sources in law enforcement agencies, this number may include not only migrants who arrived in Ceuta during the latest mass influx but also those who were already there previously.
In addition, police do not rule out that some migrants during the previous day could have crossed the border multiple times in both directions, so the actual number of people may be lower than the stated figure.
It is noted that last week a mass influx of migrants from Morocco began in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Ceuta, which has the status of an autonomous city of Spain and is located on the northern coast of Africa, has for many years remained one of the key points of illegal migration to Europe.
To contain the flow of illegal migrants, a high fence equipped with barbed wire and other protective structures has been erected along the land border with Morocco. However, despite enhanced security measures, migrants periodically manage to overcome the border barriers and enter the territory of the Spanish enclave.
