President of Ukraine again calls on allies to strengthen missile defense
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that on the night of August 1, Ukrainian forces managed to intercept only one of 27 Russian ballistic missiles due to a shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
He wrote about this on his social media.
According to Zelensky, on the night of August 1, Russian troops launched 35 missiles of various types at Ukraine, including 27 ballistic ones, as well as 185 attack drones.
“The main target was Kyiv. Strikes were also carried out on Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions. Only one ballistic missile was shot down this night simply because there are no missiles for Patriot,” the president of Ukraine stated.
He emphasized that the shortage of missile defense systems allows Russia to continue such attacks.
“It is very important that partners hear: these means are needed not somewhere in warehouses in case of possible scenarios, but here and now, so that the Russian war can be contained and stopped in Ukraine. Every package with missile defense saves the lives of our people. And every night when it is not there leads to casualties,” Zelensky noted.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that on the night of August 1, Russia attacked the country's territory with 35 missiles of various types and 185 drones. According to the Ukrainian side, the main direction of the strike was the Kyiv region.
