Indonesia searches for 28 people missing after ferry fire
Indonesian rescuers are continuing the search for 28 people who went missing after a fire on a passenger ferry off the coast of the island of Madura.
This was reported by the Reuters agency, citing a police representative.
According to him, there were a total of 271 people on board the vessel. Five people died, and 238 were rescued. The search and rescue operation is ongoing. "The police, together with the rescue service and the navy, have deployed seven vessels and one helicopter to search for the missing," he noted.
The fire on the ferry broke out on the morning of August 2. The vessel was traveling from Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city, to Makassar on the island of Sulawesi; the blaze started in the Java Sea near the island of Madura.
