Moscow restaurant Balzi Rossi, where an explosion recently occurred, has announced its closure
The Moscow restaurant Balzi Rossi, where a terrorist attack took place on August 1, has temporarily closed. The establishment's team announced this on social media. In the post, the staff also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and to all those injured.
"Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and with all those injured. In connection with the tragic events that have occurred, we deeply grieve together with you. In the coming days the restaurant will be closed. We understand that right now words are powerless in the face of what has happened," the message states.
On the evening of August 1, an explosion occurred at the Moscow restaurant Balzi Rossi, located in a Stalin-era high-rise on Kudrinskaya Square.
Initially, the version of a gas leak and explosion was considered, but it later became known that the cause of the incident was the detonation of an improvised explosive device inside the building.
According to the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, an unidentified woman tried to bring an explosive device into the restaurant. As a result of the incident, five people were killed, among them the suspect herself and a security guard. More than 20 other people were injured.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that what happened is classified as a terrorist act.
