Kyrgyzstan bans cremation of the bodies of the deceased

Kyrgyzstan has amended its law to introduce a ban on the cremation of the bodies of the deceased, NUR.KZ reports, citing 24.kg.

According to the publication, the amendments to the law "On Burial and Funeral Affairs" were adopted by deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh back on June 25. Now it has also been signed by the president of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov.

Under the amendments, the law directly prohibits the use of crematoria for burning the bodies of deceased people, as well as aborted and stillborn fetuses. Crematoria in Kyrgyzstan will be allowed to be used only for the sanitary thermal destruction of biological objects generated as a result of medical activity. This refers to human organs and tissues.

The law also removes provisions on the cremation of the deceased, urns with ashes, columbaria, and walls of grief. Unclaimed and unidentified bodies may only be buried in the ground at cemeteries.

Specialized facilities for the destruction of medical biological objects may be built at the expense of the republican and local budgets, as well as with funds from private companies.

The law will take effect in 10 days.
