Spain has returned to Morocco nearly all the illegal migrants who entered Ceuta

Virtually all the illegal migrants who made it into the autonomous city of Ceuta have already returned to Morocco.

This was stated in a press release by the Foreign Ministry of the Pyrenean kingdom.

According to its information, illegal entry into Spain through the autonomous cities of Ceuta or Melilla does not grant the right to remain in the country, to travel to the mainland part of the kingdom, or to move freely around Europe. The Foreign Ministry recalled that it had reinforced Ceuta's border with a special maritime barrier. "Virtually everyone who crossed [the border] on July 30 has already been returned to Morocco," the communiqué notes.

At the end of July, tens of thousands of illegal migrants managed to reach the autonomous city by swimming, as well as on foot, going around the breakwater that separates the city from Morocco. Amid the crisis, the Spanish authorities decided to deploy the military to help ensure security in the locality. According to the Spanish government, at least 88 people died trying to reach the territory of Ceuta. Rabat, for its part, reported 11 victims.
