Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have begun exchanging territories
Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have begun the process of exchanging border plots.
As part of the agreements on border demarcation, the villages of Chon-Gara and Tash-Dobo, which were previously part of our Fergana region, are being transferred to Kyrgyzstan, 24.kg reports. In exchange, the Kyrgyz side will allocate to us a territory of the same size in area.
A meeting of the joint working commission was held in the Kadamjay district, where experts discussed the citizenship of the residents, issues of resettlement, and the registration of property. Since August 3, specialists have been working in the villages themselves, organizing the registration of the population and explaining the procedure for processing documents.
About 2,500 people live in Chon-Gara and Tash-Dobo, predominantly ethnic Kyrgyz. Upon completion of all checks, they will be able to obtain Kyrgyz citizenship.
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan continue to pursue a policy of good neighborliness toward each other.
