Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry told Ukraine's ambassador that drone incidents are unacceptable
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova held a meeting with Ukrainian Ambassador Olesia Ilashchuk over the incursion of a drone used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces into Bulgarian airspace in the area of Kardam, expressing "serious concern" over the incident.
This was reported by the Bulgarian foreign policy department.
"During the conversation, Minister Petrova expressed the serious concern of the Bulgarian side and stressed that any unauthorized incursion into Bulgarian airspace is unacceptable. The Bulgarian side demanded that Ukraine provide all available information that could contribute to the full clarification of the circumstances of the case," the statement says.
The head of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry also pointed out that Bulgaria needs to take measures to prevent similar cases in the future, emphasizing the need for direct and effective communication channels between the competent authorities of the two countries.
On August 8, a UAV, preliminarily identified as a "Maya" decoy drone used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, exploded on Bulgarian territory near the border with Romania. There were no injuries or destruction.
In connection with the incident, additional measures were taken in the country to ensure the security of critical infrastructure.
