IRGC: Iran may prolong conflict with the U.S.

Iran is considering the possibility of prolonging the armed conflict with the United States until the end of the presidential term of American leader Donald Trump.

This was stated by Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naghdi, adviser to the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the armed forces).

"We must ensure such a level of deterrence that the enemy never dares to attack us and we can live in safety. One of the options is to drag out this war right up to the next presidential term and wear down the adversary, so that anyone who wants to attack Iran understands that they will have to pay for it," he said in an interview with the PBS television channel.

The United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached with regard to the Strait of Hormuz.
