Grandstand collapses in France ahead of light show

A grandstand with spectators collapsed before the start of a sound-and-light show at a castle in northwestern France, injuring 16 people, the radio station Ici reported, citing the local prefecture.

"Right before the start of the sound-and-light performance at the Château de Bienassis in (the commune of - ed.) Erquy... the grandstand collapsed under spectators who were taking their seats. The prefecture of (the department of - ed.) Côtes-d'Armor reports 16 injured, including five people who were hospitalized," the radio station notes.

At the time of the incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, about 100 people were on the grandstand. Most of the injured sustained moderate injuries and were treated on the scene. Five were evacuated to a hospital in the city of Saint-Brieuc. The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.
