Parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan: more than 10,000 polling stations open across the country
Kazakhstan is holding early elections to its unicameral parliament — the Kurultai.
A total of 10,423 polling stations have opened across the country, 79 of which were set up at the republic's diplomatic missions in 61 foreign countries. Voting will continue until 8:00 p.m., while at specialized polling stations — in military units, hospitals, and shift workers' settlements — commissions may announce an early close if all citizens on the lists have voted.
In total, 12,605,788 people are included in the voter lists. Seven political parties are competing for parliamentary seats: Adilet, the National Social Democratic Party, Baitak, the People's Party of Kazakhstan, Auyl, Ak Zhol, and Respublika. The voting is being monitored by 777 international observers from 42 countries and 13 international organizations.
According to the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan, as of 10:00 a.m., voter turnout stood at 17.96%.
