Bessent: The U.S. is entering the final stage of the conflict with Iran
The American administration expects to launch a "financial offensive" against Iran on August 24.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this on August 23.
"We are entering the final phase [of the war against Iran]. At dawn, 'D-Day' will come — the largest financial offensive ever deployed against an adversary," the head of the American Treasury Department wrote on X. "The President [of the United States Donald Trump] has created the conditions for engaging all agencies, structures, and powers that we thought we would not have to resort to," Bessent asserted.
Earlier, Trump announced the start of an "economic war and isolation" of Iran on an unprecedented scale. The American leader also warned that countries whose financial institutions, enterprises, airports, or government structures provide support to Tehran will face serious economic consequences from the United States.
The Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic stated on this matter that "the U.S. sanctions policy toward Iran is economic terrorism and a crime against humanity." The Iranian department pointed out that "the U.S. administration, those who developed the sanctions plans, and those who implement them must bear the appropriate punishments."
