Armenia launches a "referendum from below": EAEU or EU?
Armenia has begun collecting the signatures required to hold a referendum on the question of the country's future foreign policy orientation: the EAEU or the EU.
The initiative was launched by the "Alliance" party. The collection began on August 3, but detailed information and the subsequent schedule will be presented and made public on August 29 during a large assembly, Hayk Babukhanyan, head of the "Constitutional Right Union" party, who supported the initiative, told journalists.
The initiators propose enshrining in the Constitution a provision under which Armenia's new international obligations must not contradict the country's already existing obligations within the EAEU. Armenia should not only maintain its membership in the EAEU and the CSTO, but also deepen cooperation with these organizations, Babukhanyan believes.
