Chief of staff detained in Armenia after a "disciplinary" deadly run

In Armenia, the chief of staff of a battalion has been taken into custody after his methods of discipline led to the death of 19-year-old conscript soldier Suren Vardanyan near Chambarak.

According to journalists, the tragedy was preceded by a conflict between servicemen in the mess hall. As a "disciplinary" measure, the officer ordered the soldiers to go for a run. During the run, which took place after dark, 19-year-old Vardanyan was struck by a dilapidated truck with its headlights turned off.

Behind the wheel of the vehicle was a contract serviceman who did not have a driver's license. The conscript soldier died from the injuries he sustained. Investigative actions into the incident are currently underway.
