Kocharyan did not appear at the court hearing

Doctors did not allow the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, to be taken from the hospital to the court, where a motion for his arrest was to be considered.

This was reported by his son, member of parliament Levon Kocharyan, at a briefing in parliament.

According to him, the period of the former president's detention expired today at 08:00, but the investigation once again filed a motion to impose a preventive measure in the form of arrest.

"They very much wanted to bring him to court, but the doctors did not allow it," Kocharyan Jr. stated.

The lawmaker regarded what is happening as an attempt by the authorities to secure his father's arrest. He linked the actions of law enforcement agencies to the recent statements of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in parliament, seeing in them a direct instruction to security and judicial structures.

Robert Kocharyan and his elder son Sedrak were detained on August 25 following searches. The investigation accuses them of abuse of official powers, money laundering on an especially large scale, as well as of receiving a bribe and facilitating its receipt.

Shortly after the detention, Robert Kocharyan's condition worsened, and he was hospitalized.

Amid the investigative actions, on August 25 searches were carried out at companies belonging to the former president's family. After that, the companies were sealed.

The detentions were preceded by a sharp verbal altercation in parliament between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the former president's younger son, Levon Kocharyan.

During the discussion, Pashinyan questioned how Robert Kocharyan had become a millionaire during his ten years in power. The prime minister also stated that the former president's children would not inherit his fortune, since "all illegally acquired property must be confiscated." At the same time, Pashinyan mentioned the "Kocharyan and Sargsyan clan," referring to the second and third presidents of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan.
