Trump renames Lake Ontario on the U.S.-Canada border

Donald Trump has signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as "Lake America." According to him, the decision is linked to the fact that Washington does not expect to continue doing business with Canada. In mid-August, Washington imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods worth about $20 billion due to the failure of negotiations, and Canada responded in kind

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario on the border with Canada as "Lake America." The signing was broadcast on the White House's YouTube channel.

The new name takes effect immediately, the American leader emphasized.

One of the journalists present at the signing of the document asked the president what signal he wanted to send to Canada with this decision. "None," Donald Trump replied.

The American leader proposed renaming the lake back on August 25, after the trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada escalated. According to him, this is due to the fact that Washington does not expect to continue doing business with Ontario.

Ontario is the easternmost and smallest in area of the Great Lakes. The lake is located on the border between the Canadian province of the same name to the north and the state of New York to the south. Last year, Donald Trump already came forward with a similar initiative: on his instructions, the Gulf of Mexico was renamed the "Gulf of America."
