Nepal estimates the amount of flood damage
Nepal's Finance Minister Swarnim Waglé stated that the amount of damage from the flood could total at least several billion dollars.
"All in all, I think the total volume of losses and damage, once it is finally calculated in about a week, will amount to at least several billion dollars," the minister said in an interview with Bloomberg.
A powerful flow of water in mountainous Nepal surged into the Bhote Koshi River on Wednesday. The causes of the major flood were an earthquake and the landslide that followed it. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported on Thursday that the seismic tremors were caused by a glacier collapse rather than by underground shocks. According to the latest data, the number of flood victims in Nepal has reached 475.
