A Taliban delegation has arrived in Berlin: Germany's Foreign Ministry comments on the visit

Three representatives of the Taliban movement have unofficially arrived in Germany to facilitate the deportation of Afghan citizens.

The delegation arrived in the country on August 26 after a stopover in Qatar, where the German mission issued them visas valid for 30 days. At the moment they are at the Afghan Embassy in Berlin, and next week they plan to visit the consulates general in Bonn and Munich. Germany's Foreign Ministry confirmed the presence of a technical support group whose task is to help with the preparation of documents needed for deportations.

The German government emphasizes that the work of the Taliban representatives is connected exclusively with the provision of consular services and assistance with deportations. Most countries in the world, including EU states, have not recognized the Taliban government formed after it came to power in August 2021, but they maintain technical contacts with it on issues of migration, security, and humanitarian aid.
