Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who is imprisoned in the United States, has published a photo from prison, addressing it to his grandchildren and children.
"A small gift of love and hope. I am sending these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren, children and all the people who love us. I want you to know that we are firm, our hearts are filled with your love," Maduro captioned the photo on X.
In the picture, Maduro stands by a wall and smiles, dressed in a gray tracksuit.
On January 3, the U.S. military attacked a number of facilities in Venezuela, seized and took away Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. On January 5, they appeared before the federal court of the Southern District of New York. They are charged with involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro and his wife did not plead guilty. The functions of the head of the Venezuelan state are performed by authorized president Delcy Rodríguez, who under Maduro held the post of executive vice president of the republic.
