U.S. plans to impose sanctions weekly to pressure Iran

The Washington administration intends, with the aim of increasing pressure on Tehran, to impose new sanctions every week on various entities for ties to Iran.

This was stated by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in an interview with Reuters.

"You will see that there will be many more of them each week," he noted, referring to such restrictions on the part of the United States. "We are starting with banks and we are telling them that it is unacceptable to hold Iranian money and help the regime," the secretary specified.

Bessent added that at the upcoming meeting of finance ministers of the Group of Twenty countries, which will be held from August 31 to September 1 in Asheville (North Carolina), he will warn representatives of other states about the possibility of sanctions being imposed for ties to Iran.
