Tanker of Russia's "shadow fleet" inspected in the Mediterranean Sea - PHOTO
The European Union intends to continue its tough fight against illegal supplies of Russian oil, which uses "shadow fleet" vessels to finance military operations in Ukraine.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced this on the social network X, commenting on the detention of yet another suspicious tanker.
The incident occurred on August 30 in the Mediterranean Sea.
According to Kallas, forces of the European Union's naval operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI carried out an inspection of the oil tanker MV SUN. The vessel is suspected of sailing under a false flag in gross violation of international maritime law.
As the head of European diplomacy noted, this is already the sixth "shadow fleet" vessel to be inspected by European forces in recent months.
She announced that the issue of countering sanctions evasion and combating shadow tanker shipments will be a key topic at the upcoming meeting of EU defense ministers, which will be held on Tuesday in Ireland.
