Death toll from floods in Nepal reaches 1,000

The death toll from the devastating floods in areas of Nepal and China's Tibet Autonomous Region located near the border between the two countries has reached 955 people.

Rescue and search operations are continuing for a sixth day, and the number of victims may rise.

According to Nepal's disaster management authority, 939 deaths have been confirmed in Nepal. Another 16 fatalities have been recorded in Tibet, as reported by Chinese state media.

According to Nepali authorities, 3,925 people across the country are still considered missing. Among them are 592 foreigners, and a significant portion of those missing are linked to hydropower projects located in the affected areas.

At the same time, the number of hydroelectric power plant employees whose fate remains unknown has fallen to 639. Previously, 933 missing workers had been reported.

The most difficult situation persists in Nuwakot district, where 1,158 people are listed as missing. In the neighboring district of Rasuwa, that figure stands at 865 people. Those being sought also include 45 military personnel, 38 police officers and 18 customs and immigration service employees.

Thus, the total number of missing people on both sides of the border reaches 4,471.

The consequences of the disaster have also affected neighboring India, where authorities in the state of Uttar Pradesh reported the discovery of 17 bodies in rivers originating in Nepal.

Rescue services are continuing the search for the missing and efforts to deal with the aftermath of the natural disaster.
