Two supertankers attacked in the Strait of Hormuz
Two supertankers belonging to companies from Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Korea have been hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing Marisks (Maritime Risk Services), a company specializing in maritime risk assessment.
The Sidr, one of the largest crude oil carriers, owned by the Saudi shipping company Bahri, was hit 17 nautical miles northeast of Khasab (Oman). The tanker Senegal Prosperity, of Sinokor Group, was struck by three projectiles as it was traveling east of the same country, the report says. According to Marisks, both tankers, which had switched off the AIS transponders that revealed their location, were leaving the Persian Gulf.
The resumption of attacks in the strait threatens the recovery of oil shipments through this key waterway, whose volumes had reached about half of the prewar level, Bloomberg notes.
Following the escalation of the situation in the region, the price of Brent crude futures for November delivery on London's ICE exchange rose above $92 per barrel for the first time since August 25 of this year, trading data show.
