Trump: On the night of September 1, the U.S. military destroyed 28 ships in the Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump said that the American military disabled 28 vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday night.
He said this in an interview with Dan Patrick, the host of the Lt. Dan podcast. The conversation was recorded on Tuesday and published on Wednesday.
"Iran will never get a nuclear weapon. Right now we control the Strait of Hormuz. We control it. Last night we destroyed 28 boats, 28 ships. We control it. They aren't getting anything, and we destroyed the ships," Trump said.
On August 31, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the strikes on Iranian territory were aimed at preventing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from possibly laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
As noted, in speaking of the destroyed vessels, the American president likely meant the minelayers that were in the strait.
