U.S. military ordered not to use the name of Operation "Epic Fury"
In August, senior American military leaders were instructed to stop using the name "Epic Fury" to refer to the ongoing strikes on Iran.
This is indicated by a U.S. Air Force email dated August 7 obtained by CBS News.
In the document, service members were advised to use a broader wording instead of the name "Epic Fury" — "overseas operations in the area of responsibility of U.S. Central Command."
The instructions were prepared by the central public affairs office of the U.S. Department of Defense, which is headed by chief Pentagon press secretary Sean Parnell. According to the letter, any public information about the conflict with Iran also had to be coordinated with U.S. Central Command.
According to the Pentagon, the operation ended on May 5. That same day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters at the White House that "the operation is complete," after which the United States would move on to a new "Project Freedom."
