Musician, his pregnant wife, daughter and nanny killed in Mexico

The Mexico City Prosecutor's Office has reported the murder of Jonathan Meléndez, a musician with the indie rock band Camilo Septimo. Along with him, his pregnant wife, three-year-old daughter, the nanny and a dog were killed in the apartment.

Police have detained two suspects, one of whom was a friend and business partner of the musician.

The crime took place on the night of September 2 in the Zona Esmeralda area in the State of Mexico. Neighbors heard screams and gunshots and called the police. Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene found the bodies of four people and a dog with gunshot wounds.

Meléndez's six-year-old son was also in the apartment. The child survived and was not injured.

The identities of the alleged perpetrators were established thanks to surveillance camera footage. On September 3, Diego Sebastián — a friend and business partner of the musician, with whom Meléndez jointly owned real estate and rented it out through Airbnb — and Gerardo N. were detained. According to police, the second suspect helped carry out the murder plan, which was presumably devised by Diego Sebastián.

The main line of the investigation is a financial conflict between the business partners. In favor of this version, it is noted, is also the fact that several hours before the murder Meléndez warned one of his close friends about an upcoming difficult meeting with his business partner and asked him to go to the police if he stopped getting in touch for a long time.

Both detainees are so far refusing to testify. Mexico's music community and the members of Camilo Septimo have expressed their condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the victims.
