Armenian Nuclear Power Plant resumes operation

The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant has resumed operation after five months of scheduled maintenance and has been connected to the country's unified energy system.

This was reported by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan.

"Following the successful completion of scheduled preventive maintenance work, on September 1, 2026, power unit No. 2 of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant was restarted and connected to the country's unified energy system," the minister wrote on social media.

The scheduled maintenance of the nuclear power plant began on April 1 and lasted 153 days in accordance with the established schedule.

During this time, about 20 measures were carried out aimed at improving the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the power unit's operation.

The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant provides about one-third of the country's electricity generation. The first power unit was commissioned in December 1976, the second in January 1980. After the Spitak earthquake, the plant was shut down in 1989, and the second power unit resumed operation in November 1995.

In December 2023, "Rosatom Service" and the "Armenian Nuclear Power Plant" CJSC concluded a framework agreement on the implementation of a program for a repeat extension of the plant's service life until 2036.

Currently, the power unit is operating in normal mode. Its capacity is being gradually increased in accordance with established technological requirements.
