Britain floats the possibility of a referendum on abolishing the House of Lords

The leader of the right-wing populist party Reform UK, Nigel Farage, has said he is ready to push for the abolition of the House of Lords if it obstructs the implementation of the party's program.

According to Sky News, if he wins the next election, Farage intends to declare a "national state of emergency" and secure the passage of key bills within the first 100 days.

According to him, the House of Commons will work almost without breaks — six days a week, including weekends — until the necessary laws are passed.

Farage said he is counting on cooperation from the House of Lords. However, in the event of resistance, he is prepared to appoint hundreds of new peers in order to form a majority. If that option does not work either, the politician intends to put the question of abolishing the House of Lords to a referendum.

In addition, the Reform UK leader promised to carry out a reform of the state civil service. If officials refuse to implement the party's program, Farage intends to replace the heads of agencies with representatives of the business community.

The politician also criticized British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, saying that his party would not need ten years to achieve results — the first 100 days would be enough. Farage promised dismissal to ministers who fail to cope with their duties.
